Concept - Insulated dog house 2

A slanted single roofed  insulated dog house with two rooms. One for your dog to watch out side, one for him/her to stay away from severe weather. The rooms has appropriate size for your dog, which help him/her retain the body heat in order to stay comfy and warm in winter. There are removable flap of burlap or canvas for addtional protection in the winter, which can be remove for more ventilation in summer. Partition wall can be removed in summer, too. So your dog will have larger capacity to stretch his/her body to full length. Walls, roof and floor are insulated so your dog is entirely protected from hot or cold weather. There are ventilation holes to protect your dog from overheating in hot summer. They also prevent the dog's breath from condensing on the interior surfaces, which can makes a clammy environment for bugs and mold. The holes shouldn't be too large to retain the dog's heat in winter. A porch will prevent rain from getting into the house. The dog house should be cleaned frequently so a hinged roof will make cleaning a snap.

  2. I really like this plan! The two room concept will be perfect for our cold Iowa winters, and then changing it to a one room house will be perfect for our hot Iowa summers! We have a blue heeler / boarder collie cross, so this will be perfect for him. Thank you!

  5. I was putting together plans to build a dog house, and they are almost exactly like this. Even the dimensions are pretty close. The only differences are I don't have a porch going over the door, and I didn't even think about making holes for ventilation. I'm glad I stumbled upon this before I started building it because it definitely pointed out a few key aspects that I don't want to leave out. I think my biggest road block right now is figuring out how I'm going to work the roof. Any suggestions on what hinges to use, and how to attach them? Plus I think I may drill just a couple of holes in the floor towards the back and set it at a very slight angle to drain any water my dog may drag in because I don't want it rotting due to the fact that the floor itself won't be pressure treated. What are your thoughts on this (good/bad idea)? Other than that, thanks a lot for the help! You're the greatest.

  6. @PilotX: So you're going to build a dog house for your dog. That's great! To choose the size of the house that fit for your dog, you can refer this link: http://206.130.118.243/docs/sizing-dog-house.htm
The hinge I use for the roof is just a simple hinge that look like this: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/106289032473882031267/albums/5670163293524620017/5670163293695041106
As long as it's big enough to carry your roof. Just drill into the wall and the roof because there are frames inside. If you want more instruction to build the house, I'll make a detailed instruction for you. It'll take about 2 weeks because I can only do it in my free time.
That's your creativeness to drill holes in floor but the moisture under the floor will get into the house through the hole and the bugs can do, too. You can make the floor a slight angle toward the door and put some hay or straw in the house and change it frequently. If you don't have hay or straw, you can buy several carpets and wash them frequently. Or you can use your old clothes so you can throw them away after using.

I'm looking forward to your feedback. Have a nice day, PilotX!

    1. Straw is the go to for doghouses. Rugs, blankets, and old clothes can get wet and freeze in snowy conditions. Creating a block of ice that the dog has to lay on.

  7. Hello. I really love the idea you have for this doghouse! I am planning on building one, but i don't know the first thing about how to start. Is there a matierials list you would reccommend? and perhaps a step by step process, or a blueprint you have? if not, no worries, just thanks for the idea!

  14. I would like my husband to build this for my two labs. They are smaller labs, about 50 and 75 lbs. Is the smaller second room big enough for two dogs? We have cold winters and I want to make sure we have enough room for both even with the needed windbreak partiton wall up. how can we modify the measurements to fit our dogs?

  15. Henry, please publish the material list and detailed dimensions if you can. Is there a way you can post downloadable format? I need this for two dogs also.

    Thanks, this is excellent work.

  17. I really like this doghouse there are two points though: it needs to be kept clean if it is going to be washed how does it drain? The other is what materials i.e wood and treatment could be used to make it weather proof / dirty dog proof.
    Thanks

  18. I really like this dog house. We had one when I was younger for our dogs and I've been wanting to build one but Im having trouble working out what dimensions and materials I need. I want it to be able to fit a large breed dog. Dimensions to fit a german shep would be perfect. I would love it if you'd be able to help me out with this! Also I'd like to know what the other people have asked about such as the keeping it cleaned or wood treatments. Thanks alot :)
